Rocky Mountain National Park...my early experiences

When I was young my mom and dad and sister and brother and I  spent a part of every summer in Rocky Mountain National Park.  We stayed at the old Fall River Lodge which was situated in the west end of Horseshoe Park just where the Old Fall River Road begins it’s climb up to Fall River Pass.  Our cabin was on a hillside on the slopes of Bighorn Mountain.  To the east we looked at Deer Mountain and to the west, Mountains Chapin, Chiquita and Ypsilon.  These early experiences in hiking, horseback riding,, fishing, building chipmunk houses, watching the elk, and exploring this wonderful setting were to shape the rest of my life.  Since then I’ve visited many different national parks and experienced the wonder and solitude and nourishment they offer.  Our son Stephen attended summer camp at Cheley near Estes Park and has climbed nearly every peak in and around Rocky Mountain National Park.
