Arctic Svalbard 2011

Images taken in the high Arctic Ocean (at or near 80 degrees north latitude or about 550 miles from the North Pole) in and around the fiords of the Svalbard Archipelago (Norway) .  The last images  were taken of some of the typical painted architecture in the settlement of Longearbyen (pop. 2500) in Svalbard.  There is no crime here and many children play and ride their bikes around the town.  The Polar bear sign is a warning that after this point at the edge of town, one is required to carry a rifle for protection against possible polar bear attack.
